Winemaker's Notes
Our 2007 Gewürztraminer is fresh, bold and highly perfumed. The nose explodes with lychee nut, orange blossom and perfume. The palate is ripe, rich, structured and dry. We fermented and aged this wine in stainless steel to preserve its exotic bouquet and intense flavor.
In addition to being wonderful people, Rich and Saralee Kunde are among the finest grape growers in California. They own more than 500 acres of prime Sonoma County vineyards spread over six separate sites. Their nursery and vineyards boast an extraordinary collection of varieties (16 wine grapes, 17 table grapes), clones (75+) and rootstocks. Since its first harvest 18 years ago, Saralee's Vineyard has been one of Richard's favorite sources for fruit.
While Gewürztraminer is best known as one of Alsace's signature grapes, it was first noted as growing in the village of Tramin in northern Italy more than 1000 years ago. California's best Gewürztraminers come from the cooler regions near the Pacific Ocean. Saralee's Vineyard, located in the Russian River Valley, is one of the state's premier sites for this wildly floral variety.
