Winemaker's Notes
Our Côte de Lune Rouge is one of the most distinctive and enjoyable reds we produce. It is eminently forward and drinkable, thanks to the generous dollop of Grenache. It also has the ability to age and improve over the next five to ten years, due to the high percentage of Syrah and Mourvèdre. The color is deep and dense. The bouquet is ripe and powerful with plums, pepper, cherries, leather and cinnamon. The finish is juicy and long.

Most Americans think of wine in terms of grape variety. We drink Chardonnay, Cabernet, Syrah and Merlot. In Europe though, many of the best wines are in fact blends of many varieties named after the region or town where the vineyards are located. Chateauneuf-du-Pape immediately comes to mind.

At Arrowood we view varietal blends as an opportunity to get in touch with our creative side. It lets us fashion wines that are complex, unique and often quite personal.

Our Côte de Lune Rouge takes its inspiration from some of the remarkable blends found throughout the Southern Rhone Valley. It features three grapes native to the south of France that have adapted beautifully to Sonoma's climate and soils.

Syrah, which makes up 40% of the cepage, adds color, smoke, white pepper and firm tannins. The Mourvèdre (35%) contributes structure, depth and brightness to the finish. The Grenache Noir (25%) brings strong fruit aromatics and a generous open texture to the palate.
